[ He knows Peter's setting up a movie night soon, Finn's already asked him to come with him, but there's no such thing as too many movies, he doesn't think. Plus, he hasn't spent time with Peter in a while, and he'd rather enjoy a more private time with his friend than a mingle.
Bringing with him a few options for movies loaded onto his PADD, he arrives at Peter's door with it tucked under his arm, holding a flat and recognizable box in his hand. After he chimes the door and Peter opens it for him, he lifts it up with a smile. ]
[ By the time Jim shows up, Peter's got the projector aimed at the wall right in front of his king-sized bed, which takes up most of the room, and cables to connect it to Jim's PADD. Just in case those don't work, Peter has some movies ready as well. A few of them he asked for and got them in the supply drop, others were just random films that Peter found and got curious about. His current movie stash is as follows: Big Trouble in Little China, Willow, Short Circuit, Top Gun, Men in Black, Mask of Zorro, and The Iron Giant.
He's missed hanging out with Jim, and it almost feels as if they haven't had time to talk properly since Scorpion's Bend. Peter grins back at the view of the captain and then throws an appreciative look at the food offering. ]
Ah, you truly know the way to a man's heart, Jim. Come in, come in. Make yourself at home. And yeah, I've got drinks and some alcohol too, because what's a movie night without a few cocktails, hm? I've also brought snacks and popcorn, but pizza is a much better option.
[ He's dressed down to a pair of comfortable dark grey slacks, a lighter blue henley-shirt, and is walking around barefoot. Jim is welcome to get rid of his own shoes if he wants. ]
I believe both my husband and my boyfriend would agree with you, yes, [ He jokes, albeit unaware that Peter doesn't know about at least one of those two. He moves on like it's nothing, to him it's old news that must have made the rounds through the station at this point, and instead looks over to the whole set up, letting out an impressed little sound. ]
Wow, you really thought of everything. Okay, pizza first, then snacks and popcorn. And I'll have whatever you're offering, drinks wise.
[ He toes off his shoes immediately, setting the pizza down on the bed before crawling on the mattress. Big bed, looks comfortable, he's so ready to make himself at home just like Peter told him to. ]
Alright, I've got a couple movie options, but I imagine you have some too. Wanna swap and see what strikes our fancy?
They might be a bit biased, but it still counts...Your WHAT!?
[ 'Boyfriend' he can understand since plenty of orbers are having fun together, but when did a husband enter the picture? Peter stares at Jim in confusion as if the man just grew another head, wondering if he's joking. And thus, he is slow to process what Jim does and say next. ]
I, uhm...thanks. I thought we deserved to treat ourselves a little. [ He's going to move towards the table by the wall, that has a mini-fridge under it, and while it hasn't been his very first option, maybe some alcohol can't hurt. Somewhere, a sommelier is crying, but Peter serves them two glasses of red wine. Yes, to go with the pizza. They are going to live their most decadent night.
Once Jim is seated, Peter walks over to him with a smile on his lips, and hands him one of the glasses before getting into bed himself. ]
That smells wonderful. And I am fine with any movie, I just wanted to spend time with you, but sure. Let me amaze you with my collection of 80s flicks and their questionable special effects. [ And he does just that, showing Jim his repertoire. Peter really isn't picky when it comes to movies, and he's really curious to see what Jim's got. ]
Ah, yeah, the... well, the boyfriend is Finn, and the husband is Bones. We got hitched up back in Scorpion's Bend, [ He elaborates, since he's pretty sure that's what Peter doesn't know about and is most surprised by. He also has the decency to offer a small, apologetic smile. ] Sorry. It was kind of spur of the moment, and we never got around to doing a party to celebrate afterwards. I sort of... just lost track of who I told about it, and I figured it'd have made its way around the station at this point.
[ Well, clearly not around everyone on the station, but that's fine. It's not like Jim feels the need to broadcast it to everyone here, but this makes him think that he should probably make sure that at least his friends know about it.
He takes the glass with a thanks, not even questioning the pizza and wine combination for a moment. Sounds good to him, so whatever. Taking a sip, he scrolls through the titles on Peter's list, while letting him check his own. His is a little more eclectic, and with things ranging from the 1950's to the 21st century, a lot of it that even Peter himself would consider old classics. ]
Ooh, what about one of the James Bond movies? Do you like those?
I did know about Finn...[ It was pretty obvious during the mission of Braccia and even more, so after the man got arrested while trying to steal from a god. The news about Bones clearly leaves Peter a bit floored, he didn't even know that McCoy had this sort of romantic feelings toward Jim. They had known each other for a long time and worked together daily, so it's probably not surprising that they ended up developing feelings, Peter has been there. Once he gets over the surprise, he smiles widely, happy for his friend, and pats Jim on the shoulder. He even looks a little teary eyed, don't mind him. ]
That is AWESOME, Jim. Late congratulations are in order then. I can't believe you didn't have a bachelor party. We need to amend that one day. Do you have a ring? Let me see. Or you don't do these things in your universe?
[ He's not mad at Jim for forgetting to share the news, obviously. Besides, if they really got married while in Scorpion's Bend, Peter imagines that Jim didn't tell him because the loss of Gamora was pretty fresh, and he might have been concerned about his reaction.Â
Peter takes a long sip of his wine as well, this time more at ease than a few minutes ago as he checks the movie list, then places it on the bedside table. He also likes classic movies, and used to watch them with his grandfather, so he approves of Jim's taste. ]
Sure do. Who doesn't love spy films? Badass one-liners and terrific action scenes, I'm in. [ Peter grabs a napkin, offers another to Jim, and picks up a piece of pizza. ] Do they still make James Bonds films in the future? Because i love the guy but even he needs an update on how he deals with ladies.
[ Well, in Peter's defense, they both had years of experiences at pushing those feelings down and just focusing on being each other's best friends. Jim was always happy enough with that, would have always been happy enough with that if they'd never gotten together, but once they did... well, suffice to say they had a lot of years to catch up on, and it meant things moved a whole lot faster than either of them could have anticipated.
But it's nice to look back and realize there are absolutely no regrets. Anything might happen and yet he will never regret the path they both walked together. ]
We, ah— yes, we did rings. Well, he got me a ring, and then I got him a ring to match. [ He shows Peter his left hand, so he can admire the dark band around his ring finger. ] Bones is old-fashioned, he likes these things. And so do I, honestly.
[ He also won't say no for a belated bachelor party. A post-bachelor party? Bones can be there and everything, it'd be fun. ]
Not really. I think by the late 21st century they ran out of ideas to pull out of their asses for those movies, but there are a lot of great ones. Who's your favorite Bond?
[ Dating your best friend has many advantages, and it's nice that Jim and Leonard got to know each other so well before they took the next step.Â
Peter too would agree that it's better to take advantage of their time together before it's too late because life has a tendency to screw everyone over and ruin happiness. You don't want to have unfinished business. ]
Aww. Some things never change. [ Oh, he's going to admire it, all right. Give a long, good look, smiling fondly. ] Ey, you're preaching to the choir. My mom never got the chance to get married, but I always wanted to.
[ Not just getting married for the sake of it, of course, but everything that is implied. To have someone in your life to love and cherish, to share your life with, to start a family with. So much for that dream, now. Before Peter can ruin the moment by getting emotional about what could never be, he straightens and takes a long sip of his drink. ]
Ha, that's too bad. My grandfather always said that Sean Connery's Bond was the best, but I can barely remember his movies. I like Roger Moore myself. And you?
[ Jim offers Peter a small, understanding smile. Not as happy for himself now as he is saddened by his friend's loss. He knows how important Gamora is to him, and how much he must still be suffering her departure.
He rests his hand over Peter's, not giving him any more words of condolence but offering a gesture of comfort that lingers, one that doesn't need to come with words. It also allows them to keep talking about their movie options, shifting the conversation to something lighter that will hopefully distract Peter from some things. ]
Both great options. I must admit, I'm partial to Daniel Craig myself. Very rough and tumble, not quite so smooth around the edges. And God, he was a hunk.
[ Oh no, Jim, don't feel bad. Peter's problems shouldn't affect his friend's happiness. He would be sad to know that's the case. He is really happy that McCoy and Jim are living their lives to the fullest together. The hand on his knee makes him look down, then smile, and lean into Jim's side a little. He's silent for a few seconds, but because this is Peter, he has to break it by saying: ]
So, when should I expect kids? I want to be an uncle. [ He says that with the utmost casualness he can muster, and tries really hard to suppress a grin, before they focus on James Bond again. He really is lucky to have a friend like Jim, to be honest with and talk about pretty much anything. ]
Never heard of him before, but now we have to watch whatever movies he is in. Let me judge for myself if he really measures up to that hunk status.
[ Jim just rolls his eyes at that question, chuckling. ]
Not anytime soon. Besides, Bones already has a kid.
[ Either way, it's not the kind of thing he's ever considered, and they definitely don't have the kind of life for that. Maybe one day in the future they'd settle down somewhere, but he doesn't see that happening anytime soon. ]
Oh, you'll see. He's really something. Bit different from the other Bonds though, so fair warning. What about, ah... Casino Royale? I like that one. Plus, it has Eva Green and Mads Mikkelsen. Even better.
[ Peter grins, playfully nudges Jim, and then stares at him in surprise once again. ]
He does? Wonders never cease today. Is there anything else I missed and I should know? Do you have a devil twin? Is the Enterprise round-shaped? Does Spock like hula hooping?
[ At this point, he might believe everything. Except for perhaps the hula hoop thing. And no, right now, Jim is right that they don't have the right life for raising kids right now. Who can tell what the future might bring? ]
Different is good, I like variety. Casino Royale it is then. I don't know Eva Green or Mads Mikkelsen, I'm not very up-to-date with actors unless they're from the 80s. But I trust your judgment. [ Peter clinks their wine glasses together and takes a sip. He's absolutely going to love Eva Green, because who wouldn't? ]
post-mission softs

Got pizza too. Did you manage drinks?
