[ Blue's laugh is not a sound he hears often. It's good to see him more relaxed than when he first got to this station and knowing that he's interacting with others. ]
Yes, it is. It will feel different, too, depending on who you kiss. Some people are better at it than others, or they simply make us feel giddier because we like them. [ Peter sat down and leaned back, smiling at his friend. It never hurts to try new things. ] So...planning on a repeat? I'm pretty sure that there are plenty of folks in this station that would like to kiss you, even with any plants involved.
[ That mischievous glint is a good look on Blue. It takes Peter a second to get the implications of that 'you', as well, even though he's aware of Blue's powers being similar and stronger than Mantis'. When it dawns on him, he laughs and sheepishly rubs the back of his nape. ]
What can I say, I'm always happy to see her. We could try to be more discrete. [ Although, he has no idea how to do that. Is there anything that blocks Blues powers? ] Moments? As in...plural? Who else have you been smooching? I promise I won't tell.
[he shakes his head. no, he wouldn't want anyone to stifle their feelings for his sake; even in moments it troubles him, that sense of awareness of others is comforting, and the lack of it would scare him more.
at the probing, Blue tilts his head. there's kind of a blessing in Blue's ignorance to nuance in this case: he has no shame or compulsion to it.] Both James and Finn.
[ He is concerned about embarrassing or overwhelming Blue but if the man doesn't think that holding back is necessary, then that makes it's easier for them all. Peter isn't exactly a guy with a good grip on his emotions. ]
You have good taste in men. Peter might be taken but he's not blind. Would you like to keep doing this once the holidays are over? the kissing. Frankly I am surprised no more people is hitting on you. Have you talked to Newt?
[shame requires a bit more context, turns out; neither of those men were at all troubled to oblige him, so Blue had no reason to feel troubled in turn.
what Peter asks, though...it makes him wonder. was that exclusively for the holidays? those feelings, too?
his eyes wince a little at mention of Newt, because the recent happening between himself and Newt's unconscious passengers...is still a bit raw.
he shakes his head.]
Not about the mistletoe, no. Mostly...about music. Or the things he is tinkering with. But...not recently.
Either way...I'm not sure. [he looks pensive now.] I wouldn't mind, but...if it was only because of that tradition...
[ Shame is often a useless feeling, more so with relationships. It's better if blue doesn't bother with it. ]
Are you okay? [ That slight wine isn't something Peter had been expecting. He knows Newt can be a bit histrionic, but the man generally means well and gets along with others. ]
The tradition is a good excuse to show affection, but there's no reason why it needs to stop once Christmas is over. You should kiss more people if you really want to, Blue.
If...that's what others want, rather. [he tilts his head slightly.] There's...rules and boundaries to it all, isn't there? I don't think I've grasped...all the nuance yet.
The way I am...is already an imposition to many. I don't want to add to that.
[he thinks about the way Yzak spoke with such distaste for the tradition, about the way Rosinante hesitated to even be near when Blue mentioned his power. for as many welcoming and understanding interactions as he's had, Blue's also had as many withdrawals or negative impulses to recoil.]
It needs to be something you both want. [ Peter can't stress this enough. But he probably doesn't need to, since he's talking to a telepath here. Blue might notice he's being very serious about consent when it comes to all the parties involved. ]
You'll learn them with time, messing up a bit it's not a big deal. Just go with what feels good for you and check that it also feels nice to the other person. [ Again, consent and all that. Peter pats Blue's shoulder and gives him a kind smile. ]
Dude, I really don't think you understand just how many people in this station likes you. Sure, there will be people who won't trust you, or people who will be wary, but it happens to us all. I have way more enemies than friends. And my friends are kind of assholes sometimes, but it's okay.
I think...the wants and wishes of people here...are very dynamic. Compared to what it's like with people where I'm from. It can be hard to keep up with it all...and I find I observe more than I interact.
How do I describe it...that rushing amount of change...that could sweep you away... [he tries to think of something. it's hard, because the best comparison would be like standing in knee-deep rushing water. he's never done that before!]
[ Dynamic. Peter smiles at that because it sounds polite speak for 'you are all a bunch of moody nutjobs'. Blue is just too sweet for his own good. ]
Hm, I get it. It's like when it rains too hard and too much. You need a metaphorical umbrella or a place to take a break. Boundaries and limits. I never had powers like yours, so I can only imagine how stressful they are. Mantis, that teammate I mentioned that has similar powers, can turn them on and off, so to speak.
[ He reaches out to give Blue's arm a small, encouraging pat. ]
You will figure it out in time, I have faith in you. I also have a present for you. It's a little early for Christmas but...
[ Blue warned Peter that he was coming, so he had it reading. He takes the box wrapped in navy paper with a silver bow on top from the bed and offers it to Blue. Inside there's a pair of light blue mittens, and a matching scarf. They're...not perfect, far from it, actually, because Peter knitted them himself, and he's not very good at it. He's also terrible at stimulating how long a scarf needs to be. The mittens have two small letters "S.B." - Soldier Blue, obviously- sewed on each one of them. ]
[turning off emotions... it seems a little intense to Blue. how would you ever adjust? learn to adjust, even? he supposes he couldn't really understand unless he were to meet them, an--]
Hm-?
[his focus pivots, eyebrows lifting as a box is set before him. after giving Peter a glance, gleaning that bubbling anticipation from him, smiling small while opening up the box.]
What are these...? [he lifts one of the mittens gingerly, curious.] Gloves? No, there's no fingers...just the one...
[ Maybe not shut them off completely, just tune out the worst ones, finding a balance. It's easier said than done, Peter knows. He watches with rap attention as blue unwraps the present, a bit nervous himself. Perhaps he should have asked something from Viveca instead, already made, instead of doing it himself. He thought it would be more special this way, but perhaps it just looks bad. ]
Ah, they're mittens. They're similar to gloves, but they keep your hands even warmer because the fingers are close together. They're perhaps not the most functional when you want to work with your hands, but if you're just walking or playing with the snow, they work better than normal gloves. It's uhm...well I made them, but I can give you something else if you don't think you'll be needing them?
[Blue is gently running his thumb across the woven texture as Peter explains, wondering if there was word around the station that there was going to be cold terrain in store, but that thought is halted, caught off-guard by one bit of that explanation that draws his eyes back up to Peter, eyebrows raised once more in more apparent surprise.]
Yeah. [ Peter look uncharacteristically meek at the confession. He knows that his sewing skills need work and that Blue could simply ask for normal gloves to Viveca and get something of better quality. But he likes to give these sorts of gift, they feel more personal if he made them. ]
[the admission is met with a small beat of silence before a smile starts to form.]
Peter...this is remarkable. [he looks back down at them with more admiration - even a bit of reverence.] That you took such time... [for him.] It makes me so happy...
Peter smiles instantly, finally noticing that Blue is actually touched by the present, instead of just confused. He has to fight the urge to hug him, and doesn't manage, so he wraps an arm around the other man's shoulders and gives him a friendly squeeze.
I'm happy to hear that. And you can wear them in the sunlight room, Viveca made it look like it has snowed. We could go have a snowball fight.
[Blue doesn't shy away from the gesture, instead leaning against him while still smiling down at the gift. it's so very personal, filled with diligent work with the intention for him, no one else. that's special.
no subject
If it's...like that for most people, then I'm relieved. I'd not done that before. Gestures like that...they're not common.

I think...most are quite occupied with others, more often than not. You, as well.
[because if Peter didn't rush over to tell him his girlfriend was here, Blue could've very quickly found out...]
But it's alright. I'm grateful for those moments I've had. [James. Finn.]
